Reading paper is a menace

"Stay focused, and ignore the points you don't understand"- one golden rule that I derived after many times of failures while reading papers. Quite often - it is such an easy matter to be carried away with references and small points that i don't understand. So the maths goes exponential - one paper lead to 3 references; 6 question points and another further 3x6 references! Being drifted away is so easy! When is the loop gonna end? At the end of the tiring "rat racing" tracing after a single concept - the original flow of knowledge is already lost. Needless to say about the in-accessibility of NUS libraries. yeah - i am under the so called "multi-disciplinary" faculty - that's why even the references books are scattered around!

What an irony! References from a common source have to be collected from Science library, Medical library, and Central library separately..To further elaborate, journal of microscopy in Med, optics book from Science, and re-activating of my library card at central library (because that I own them 2.5 bucks for late returning). Oh did I forget to mention that these libraries are "kind of" far from each other? (med and Sci are ok - about 10 mins walking, but Sci to central is a half an hour round trip by shuttle bus, not including a walking time of 10-15mins walking uphill...

These ultimate frustration is due to reason that stingy NUS library only subscribes to the latest issues of e-journals (often from 1990 onwards). Those 60s to 90s are oldies that preserved in hard copy format in the "folks home", with first grade dust-free care of librarians from three libraries mentioned above. By the way it is not easy to visit these "old folks" - a stack number has to be presented and a waiting time of one day is necessary.

So - in conclusion, stay focused and ignore side points that are unclear from a paper, just try to get the main meaning of the present paper. That's my piece of advice for the day.

Romatic Weekend at Sentosa

It has been a really really long time before me and George took a break-away from our work. Finally the chance came last weekend - when both of us had good news! He officially finished the thesis and I got the lucky Green...

The destination was sentosa - the (n+1)th time! But we decided to constrain ourselves from doing any "tourist" stuff - and instead just concentrated on relaxation and fun~~ (mostly i am saying this to myself)

After much traveling around for other trivial things (George's board short and my graduation photo), we finally settled down on Palawan beach at nearly 7 pm. Already showing a bit of tireness on his face, George still looked happy to play beach soccer, which i am really grateful! My dearest babe - always showing a shining and smiling face for me. So I hastened to change into my first official tankini...

The game went on for about half an hour in the dark (good thing that not many people can see my sweety face in the beautiful tankini!) George scored quite a few goals and i realized again that i am no match for him in this game. hehe the proud guy claimed that he only used 20% of his total "power"...anyway i dont really mind since i am no Beckham!足球运动虽不是我的长项,但有的一搏是人生的乐事。 尤其是沙滩足球 - 惬意的运动!

Both of us couldn't wait to get into the water for a dip after the "break-taking" soccer process. The sea water smoothly brushed over our tummies and i could feel the delicate and silky sensation all over my body - such a good massage! Up there a hazy slit of moon hung half way in the sky, and somewhere far i could hear music coming from a beach bar... i love this moment. 浪漫的海水浴美容 又有情调,真是妙不可言!

Stomach's complaints were the only thing that could drag us out of the water. It was a wonderful surprise to find out a new food court opening near Palawan beach and the serving size was so big that i think it can be rarely found in Singapore. Noodles are always my favorite and with mushroom - yum! George ordered grilled dory and it came with enormous size and great taste too! highly recommend KouFu Food court to those going to Sentosa!

The highlight of the day came lastly to a groovy music performance "Jazz by the beach", man, i love this part and the best thing was that it was free! Of course who wouldn't order a bottle of beer and enjoy this lovely moment?
