From the Newsweek on 29th August, i read today (while waiting for my documents at a Notary Pulic!) about an article talking that China is lacking top-quality managers. The article claimed that there are only "3000-5000 such men and women" in the country"...as a Chinese living overseas, i think the deep-root reason for this small number in the 1-billion population country is interesting. The above 3000-5000 men and women must be referring to those who were educated outside the country but had all their management work experience in China.
I simply think this is a paradoxial situation. As most people educated outside the country would agree with me that it is extremely difficult to apply what they have learnt from overseas to the country. China is a totally different place from the rest of the world market. One can't use rules and laws from other parts of the world there - so then why is overseas education more valued than those locally produced MBAs? The reason lies in the system structure again. The overseas education gives the enlightenment and the actual practivity must come from experience within China itself.
it is no wonder then only 3000 out of 1 billion people qualify for the critera - simply seldom do people come back to the country to work once they get the very good management education. And even if some do come back - it might take a long time for them to adjust back the local operation infrastructure...considering that the biggest flow of people coming out of the country started only in the 90s. Those who got the overseas MBA education and decided to go back to China are still probably adjusting to the local market (the big culture shock to find out that what they have learnt from Western textbook does not apply much!)
I'd say - give these people another 5 years - then probably China will have plenty of managers~~

Prof Briton Chance
This morning, a seminar was conducted by the famous 93-year-old professor Briton Chance at Matrix Theatre, Biopolis. He has actually visited my lab in a previous occation, and it was amazing to watch this very old but very wise man giving his speech! "I am flexible~~" was the claim when he was trying to pick up some papers dropped to the ground. Indeed i think he is! Laughters aside- one might then seriously wants to consider his advice for long-life: " Try Olympics..."
